Essay
I think that some of my best work, includes my essay. I think this because it was my first essay, and I think I expressed my point very well. I feel like I nicely formatted it, especially for my first essay. Teenager Anxiety levels: Way Higher Than It Should Be. It’s 2015, and anxiety and depression are the most common mental illnesses to this day. Mental illnesses are affecting teenagers' life socially, mentally, and affecting their school experience. It’s sad, but true, that kids in highschool are diagnosed with anxiety because there parents want them to get good grades and have a great future. For some of you who don’t know what anxiety is, it is a mental illness, that puts you in a state of constant worrying, nervousness, and caring too much about what others think. You’re in constant fear of a bad outcome of possibly everything. Coming from someone who lives with anxiety and depression, it’s hell. Now, there are different types of anxiety, and I will be discussing those different types with you, and how it affects your everyday lives. Now to start off, let’s start with how In the United States, from 1997-2004, $900,000,000 was spent on anti- depressants, and anxiety relief pills. From 2005-2015, the number almost tripled in size. $2.1 billion. There are a total of 26 different anxiety relief pills, all costing anywhere from $9-$298. In 2003, Canada’s National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth (NLSCY) conducted a study that showed that prevalence of anxiety problems, ranged from 2- 12%, and the younger the age, the lower the percentage. Children aged 10-15 had a higher prevalence. In this study, it showed that over 100,000 children aged 0-17 had a behavioural and developmental problem. These problems caused these children to miss over 10 days of school, three times more than children and teenagers without these behavioural/developmental problems. Approximately 49% of the general population will live with anxiety, depression, or have a history of these mental illnesses. High school students, in the 21st century, have the same anxiety levels as psychiatric patient in the early 1950s. Now, you may ask, what causes anxiety. Many reasons, like drug or alcohol abuse, brain genetics (ex: from mom/dad) or medical factors. But the main cause for this is a combination of all these. How can I avoid getting anxiety? The answer is, you can’t. It’s a mental illness and you can’t just avoid it. There are ways to reduce anxiety and get rid of it. If you eat healthy, exercise, avoid caffeine, some of your anxiety can go away, but it may not entirely be cured. Kids these days, can stress so little over something so big, and think so little about it. While other kids stress so much about something so little and then think about what they’ve done wrong for the next week. Anxiety is also known to cause self-harming problems , can lead to depression, and lower grades in school. Now what different types of anxiety are there? People only think that there is one, but there is social anxiety Disorder, panic attacks, Phobias, and the generalized anxiety disorder. All of these have the same symptoms, like problems sleeping, cold/hot flashes,in -ability to be calm and/or still, nausea, heart palpitations, cold/ sweaty hands, and constant muscle tensions In conclusion, anxiety can make your life very hard to live, when you’re caring too much of what people say, or do, or the mistakes you’ve made. You’ve failed a test, gained a few pounds, and got yelled at, but what do you do? you try again. There is no need to worry so much about the little things in life. You only have one chance at life, and there’s no time to be wasting, worrying too much. If you are already suffering from anxiety disorder, eat right, exercise, avoid caffeine, and live your life to the fullest you can. Anxiety disorder levels should not be this high, especially for teenagers in highschool, we are worrying too much about grades, and friends, and trying to be everyone else. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Youth Forums project. I also think that My youth forums project went really well. IN our group (KC, Erika, Brianna, and Taylor) , we chose the topic about a youth art program. I think that the presentation went super well, as I memorized my lines, and spoke clearly and loud. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Culminating Activity. I think that our (Taylor and I) culminating presentation and process planning went really well. Our planning went super smoothly, and we did better than we thought. We brought in a speaker from the Anselma house, Lisa, and she explained to our class about women's abuse and the facility.I had a lot of fun doing this project, as we got too get involved within the community. I think that our topic was a good topic, because a lot of people chose homelessness as a topic, and did the same thing. https://docs.google.com/a/googleapps.wrdsb.ca/presentation/d/1zosH99W7hR14JYdEF1XfQgzqLLCcot7LboxQSQL259M/edit?usp=sharing -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
