Since the 35th annual Terry Fox run is tomorrow, I feel the need to write a commemorating post towards him. He ran across Canada for 187 days. He is an inspiration to many, and is missed by many as well. He took his friend along side with him, to support him along the way of his journey. He was forced to stop his run due to the cancer spreading to his lungs. He raised $24.17 million and died in June 1981. every year, schools across Canada , have the Terry fox run. CHCI is the only high school that does this run, but every elementary, and middle school's do this event.
Stress can be caused by something as simple as a quiz the next day, or something more complicated to deal with, like a family problem. Stress is a silent killer, because it can lead to school grades dropping, to depression, and many other health issues. If you let your feeling's out to someone,it helps, but I will also be listing some of the strategies I've used in the past, and still use today. Living with stress is just the same as having the weight of the world on your shoulders.
Some of the things that I've tried to cope with the stress in my life, is that I went for a walk, and I go for runs a lot. Working out also reduces stress, that I've found. I listen to music a lot, and read and write. All of these strategies have worked really well for me in the past. Today, I don't think I was very productive, because it is a Thursday, and I am anxious to go home. I feel like I didn't really have much to do today either. I finished my critical analysis, my rant is done, my social issue, I worked on for a bit, finished my survival refelection.
Reading can be a way to reduce stress, and look at things with a whole new perspective. One moment, you could see the glass as half full, but the nest see it as half empty. Reading can be enjoyed by some, but hated by others. I love reading, I can use my spare time to read, and enjoy a good book."Reading gives us a place to go when we have to stay where we are."
-Anon. In today's world, you can't live everyday without having a label being put on you, by others that don't think you are "normal". If you don't wear the style everyone is wearing, you are seen as "different". If you self harm, or wear black, or listen to something other than rap/hip-hop, than you are seen as "emo,or goth". Everyone thinks that, if you are different, it's not okay, you have to become normal, to be able to fit in. I feel that people come to judge you before they realize that you are not who you look like. I feel people are putting labels on other people, to make them selves feel more powerful, or better than themselves, because they may have an insecurity, so they label to make them selves feel more important.
Today, we did an activity. Who would stay alive in a nuclear holocaust, in a bunker, and only 3 can survive, or all for 2 years. My group chose 3 people to survive. The scientist, the pregnant women, and the army soldier. All the groups chose these 3 people. But why you ask? Because of the values that were put on these 3 specific people. The scientist was taken as the smart, intelligent one. But the others that were left to die, like the disabled person, or the drug addict, were seen as useless, because of who they are. Everyone thought that they couldn't do anything for the group because they had no value. But they saved the army person, even if he had a mental instability. The values are only seen as their intelligence level, or their job/ position in society. You could see a homeless man, and say that he has no worth or value. He could also be a very smart person. In today's society, you judge people based on looks. I feel as if we shouldn't be placing value's on people because you don't even know how intelligent they really are, or how much they are worth to the group.
When I took the quiz to find my perspective, I found out I was more neurotic than any other of the 4 categories. Being more neurotic means that you will show signs of having a mental illness, or disorder, but not fully indicate it, for example, you may bite your nails, or losing the ability to concentrate on a certain task at hand, sparks of sadness, major changes in eating habits, and drug an alcohol abuse. I also found out that I'm very open to new people and new ideas, and people. I'm not very agreeable with a lot of things, but that's the one thing I can agree on. "Agree too disagree." My extraversion level was only 27%, I don't really like talking to people, or being assertive with people, that's why it's so low. I am very thorough and careful when reading, or completing a task. MY consicentousness level was 79%. I feel as this quiz was very accurate when it comes to my answers.
